"The eyes are dazzled, the soul is ravished. (...) There is nothing in Europe which could, let's say, resemble to this theatre, but even give a faint idea of it (Stendhal, Rome, Naples and Florence 1817)"
FIRE REACTION CLASS B FOR GAZZOTTI PRONTO PARQUET EXTRARESISTENT
As the first Italian producers Gazzotti Spa has obtained Bfl-S1 (EN 14342) fire reaction certification for its engineered 2-ply parquet Extraresistent. All wood species except Cabreuva, Ash Thermic and Birch Thermic can now be used also for contract project, where special fire restriction may be requested. The product needs to be laid on fire resisting underfloor and glued down with Gazzotti EG ECO glue. Since there is no obligation for external certification for the moment, class B is marked on every single pack of product. At the moment of order, the customers are requested to specify the requests the product needs to meet.
Thanks to this class B certification Gazzotti was able to take part in a prestigious building project: the renovation of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
The San Carlo theatre was built in 1735 by architects Giovanni Antonio Medrano and Angelo Carasale by order of the Spanish King Charles IV of Bourbon. It is Europe’s eldest opera house and has been declared World Heritage by the Unesco. The restructuring works have been conducted by Cobar a company specialized in renovation and conservation of cultural heritage.
The whole auditorium was paved with Gazzotti Extraresistent Oak XL. The innovation is in the construction of the floor: a steel concrete structure with built-in wood lamellas has been elevated on the walking base. A panel covering with specifically designed inclination gives the structure perfect acoustic properties.
The solid is a container for air and guarantees contemporarily the correct functioning of the air conditioning system: the air is blown into the auditorium through valves placed under every chair.
The choice of Gazzotti parquet was determined by the construction company. The reasons where multiple: the quality of the products, the resistance of the Extraresistent-Surface and above all the assured security thanks to Class Bfl-s1 certification.
A further masterpiece was the work done by the laying team of Schinco Parquet, who have glued down 480 sm of parquet in the auditorium in only one day.
Cobar adds: “Normally we use parquet in theatres in order to maintain the acoustics. We had to guarantee the integrity of an acoustics, known as worldwide one of the best. Furthermore it was important to insure a continuous solution between decoration and floor in order to maintain the warm and distinctive features of the opera house.
